What is the difference between plexiglass board and acrylic board
Jul 13, 2021
Acrylic panels and plexiglass panels are often confused, but their composition is somewhat the same, but there are still differences.
Plexiglass plate is a thermoplastic with excellent light transmittance. It is made by polymerizing methyl methacrylate as the main component and adding initiator and plasticizer.
Plexiglass has excellent light transmittance, which can reach 99% light transmittance and transmit 73.5% of ultraviolet rays. High mechanical strength, excellent heat resistance, cold resistance and weather resistance. Good internal corrosion and insulation, brittle texture, soluble in organic solvents, and low surface hardness. Scratches are easy to appear, affecting the permeability of plexiglass.
Plexiglass
The acrylic sheet is made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) sheet plexiglass, which is a specially processed plexiglass.
High transparency, as high as 92%, crystal clear, enjoy the reputation of "Plastic Queen", can replace ordinary silica glass. Excellent weather resistance at room temperature, it will not degrade for more than 10 years. High surface hardness and gloss, good processing performance, suitable for processing, easy to thermoform. It is suitable for surface decoration such as chemical resistance, spraying, silk screen printing, vacuum coating, and thin film. Environmentally friendly, non-toxic and harmless, recyclable, although not flammable, it is flammable and not self-extinguishing.
Acrylic board
Acrylic: PMMA board made of pure MMA is called acrylic board.
Both the plexiglass plate and the acrylic plate are made of polymethyl methacrylate.
